The Importance of Form

When most people get serious about starting a fitness routine it's only natural to want to jump right in and want to give 110%. A lot of times that equates to people pushing themselves and weights as heavy as possible which in turn compromises their form!

"Well, I thought heavy lifting was the best way to build muscle and get stronger. If form my is lacking a little will it make that much of a difference?" The answer is YES! And here's why…

  1. Maximum muscle activation and tension

When you use correct form, you ensure the target muscles are doing the work rather than compensating with other muscle groups or via momentum. This creates optimal tension on the specific muscles you're trying to grow. For example, if you're doing bicep curls with poor form and swinging the weight up, your shoulders and back take over, reducing the actual work your biceps perform.

  2. Injury prevention for consistent training

Poor form significantly increases injury risk, which can derail your progress for weeks, months, or even years. Muscle building requires consistent progressive overload over time, and injuries force you to take breaks or work around limitations. Maintaining good form protects your joints, tendons, and ligaments, allowing you to train consistently - the most important factor for long-term muscle growth.

  3. Better mind-muscle connection and progressive overload tracking

Proper form helps you develop a stronger mind-muscle connection, allowing you to feel and focus on the muscles working during each rep. This enhanced awareness leads to better muscle recruitment. Additionally, when your form is consistent, you can accurately track strength gains and know that increases in weight or reps represent true progress rather than just getting better at cheating the movement.

There are no quick fixes when it comes to growing muscle naturally and in a healthy way but making sure you have good form is a great way to know you're on the right track!
